In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to upgrade your hard drive via cloning through a program called super duper. This will backup everything including your Macintosh HD. It will not backup your windows partition (BOOTCAMP) For this tutorial, you only need the free version of super duper. No need to purchase the full version. (i do recommend purchasing the full version – This software is awesome) www.macupdate.com You will also need an external enclosure to work with your new hard drive …

I cloned my hdd for my mac mini but for some reason only the “users” and “printerservers” folders are on there..

is that good or do I have to clone it again?

  • stevesmacfix:

I would try again, and if that doesn’t work, definitely contact the developers site! They do have some support there that could possibly help ya out!

  • wierasa:

    hey steve.
i dont exactly fully get this. do u put the extra hardware in the USB?

  • knowlimitsoulja:

    THANK SO MUCH!!!!!..

  • schooder:

    Thanks Steve
I will be changing out my HD soon I don’t even have room to re-install the OS.
To fix glitches. I was thinking of getting rid of / cleaning up my current HD before I clone it. Seems like a fresh install ( on the new won) then add the things I want. This sounds complex, My biggest question is how can i find out what is taking up all that space? OR should I just shut-up and clone it.

    Thanks
    Terry

  • taloto07:

Dear Steve I used super duper to clone my osx hdd but after I boot from my new hdd it won’t let me run bootcamp(want to put window in bootcamp partition). Please help?

  • MychaelYang:

Very helpful tutorial but I was just wondering, what if your new HD already has say windows pre-installed on it. Would super duper erase the windows and clone the mac os x? I would be so greatful if anyone could answer my question and I’m sure so many others would also. Thanks

  • grantnbrandonwazhea:

i didnt get the apple sign so what do i do now

  • XBlackXLabelX:

    this is great,
however i have one more queston — what if i want to copy the bootcamp partition? i am guessing that i might make a particion on the new disk, then use super duper twice — once to put Mac HD to 1 partition and then Bootcamp to 2nd partition. will that work? am i thinking in a good way?

    thanks again!

  • jasperibe:

    very kool, thanks!!!

  • titleistD2:

Hello, I used this tutorial to upgrade my HD. However after all said and done is does work but there is a delay right at start up where i get a white screen for about 10 seconds before I get the apple sign? any ideas

  • tdepke:

Sometimes it is uploading the firmware or updating these kinds of things. It is usually a one time thing. If it occurs more than once than it could be something else.

  • titleistD2:

Hey, I appreciate the help but i fixed it. I am new to Mac and I had to select the new disc on start up through system preferences. All that time it was looking for the hard drive that was not longer there. A very important part to this install! I am now booting at about 23 second with my new Hitatchi 7200rpm 500gb.
